A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a teal blue disc with a silver invected border, centered thereon a smaller disc checkered white and teal blue, with a vertical doubled-webbed silver key overall, the webs uppermost , and issuant therefrom in arcs towards base four silver flashes points down; above and below the disc a silver scroll reversed with teal blue and inscribed in teal blue with the words "HOME OF THE" at top and "PROFESSIONALS" at bottom.
Teal blue and silver refer to the colors formerly used by the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM). The key is taken from the INSCOM shoulder sleeve insignia and alludes to the unit's link in the command mission. The silver invected border with forty-eight indentations and the small disc at center refer to the type of antenna used by the unit as seen from above. The blue and white checky disc further suggests the unit's location in Bavaria. The lightning flashes refer to the worldwide electronic communications both friendly and hostile.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the U.S. Army Field Station, Augsburg on 23 November 1984. It was redesignated for the 701st Military Intelligence Brigade effective 1 January 1988. The insignia was amended to update the symbolism on 19 December 1988.
